The Ingredients
Beef Tallow: The base of our balm is rendered down beef fat, also know as tallow. We use grass-fed beef tallow that is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K. These vitamins help nourish the skin. For this reason, tallow has been used throughout history as a natural moisturizer. In the modern world however, not all tallow is created equally. Tallow from grain-fed cows doesn’t have nearly the same amount of vitamins that grass-fed tallow has. This is also why we render our tallow at low temperatures. Rendering at high temperatures will lead to the tallow losing some of it’s nutritional benefits. This will also happen if you “purify” your tallow to remove the odor. Yes, the slight odor will be gone, but so will some of it’s precious nutrients!
Olive Oil: In addition to our tallow, all of our balms contain olive oil. Just like tallow, olive oil has been used throughout history as a natural moisturizer. Also like tallow, not all olive oil is the same. We use high quality olive oil that is cold-pressed and extra-virgin. Adding this to the tallow helps the balm to be more spreadable. We use just enough olive oil to leave you with a workable balm that is still dense and made up of mostly tallow.
Scents: Currently, we offer four different scent options; unscented, lavender, cedarwood, and vanilla. Our unscented balm will have a slight scent from the tallow but does not contain any additional scents. Both the lavender and cedarwood balms are scented with therapeutic-grade essential oils (lavender and cedarwood respectively). Our vanilla balm is scented with pure vanilla extract.
The Packaging
At Old Brucan we try to go above and beyond with our packaging. We use glass jars with metal lids that ensure you can reuse or recycle them. This also keeps your product from touching plastic that might leach microplastics into it. Our labels are 100% paper that we cut to size and adhere to the jars with handmade, all natural glue. We use durable cardboard boxes that allow us to not use plastic bubble wrap. They are even strong enough to stand on without crushing! We hand stamp our info on these with non-toxic ink. All of this is done to minimize the amount of plastic we use as a company.
Lusanne Sills –
Since discovering this beef tallow balm the dry places I would normally have to have frozen by my dermo have much improved or even disappeared.
It also helps heal minor burns and scratches. After reading about the history and benefits of beef tallow I love using this natural product on my skin.
I feel Old Brucan is the best buy in this market.
